Psychiatrist and psychotherapist
Benedikt L. Amann specialized as Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist in the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. During his training there, he initiated scientific projects in bipolar disorder together with Prof. Grunze and received grant funding from the Stanley Medical Research Centre. As research assistant he spent one year each in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Neurology, Queen Square London, UK (Prof. Trimble) and in Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, Spain (Prof. Vieta). In 2006 he was contracted as Principal Investigator of the Ministry of Health in Spain and was named member of the CIBERSAM, the most relevant scientific network to study mental diseases in Spain. Since then he has been working in the FIDMAG Research Foundation Hermanas Hospitalarias in Barcelona, Spain, with a scientific focus on neuroimaging and neuropsychological studies in bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder. More recently, he also initiated basic and clinical research on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), including a first controlled trial in traumatized bipolar patients. He is a member of the Spanish and European EMDR scientific committee, author of more than 70 scientific articles in national and international peer reviewed journals and has given various lectures in national and international congresses.
